Greetings! Allow me to introduce myself. I am Dmytro Korotkykh, Ukrainian, a proud father of three wonderful children.
In September 2019, my family and I made the move to North Bay, ON. To my surprise, I discovered that this city, with its population 52 thousand, lacked any chess or checkers schools.
This realization was quite disheartening for me, considering that North Bay had once been renowned globally in the chess world. Decades ago, it hosted the prestigious North Bay International tournament, attracting more than three hundred players from around the globe. Legendary grandmasters such as Boris Spassky, the Polgar sisters, and numerous others graced this place with their formidable skills.
In my personal journey, chess has been a significant part of my life since a very young age. I delved into the game professionally when I was just six years old, and remarkably, by the time I reached ten, I had achieved an adult-level status. By the age of twelve, I earned the coveted title of candidate master.
However, due to familial obligations, I reluctantly had to step away from the chess scene, and astonishingly, I went without playing a single game for a staggering 25 years.
But as they say, life comes full circle, and a new chapter began when my passion for chess was reignited by none other than my son. The opportunity to share this remarkable game with him has breathed fresh life into my love for chess, and I have found myself once again immersed in the world of kings and queens, knights and rooks.
Now I can contribute to the community by establishing the chess school Chess Studio in North Bay. By passing down the knowledge and skills I acquired over the years, I aspire to see a new generation of chess enthusiasts bloom in this city and revive its legacy as a hub for intellectual competition.
The journey has just begun, and I am eager to see what the future holds for me and the world of chess in North Bay. With dedication and perseverance, I believe we can create a thriving chess community that will make the city proud once more.
